Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil Presents Senator’s Choice Award to Teresa’s Place of Jackson

Historic Italian Restaurant Recognized for Small Business Excellence in Senate District 4

Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil (R-Jackson) presented Teresa’s Place with the Senator’s Choice Award at the California Small Business Development Center’s (SBDC) statewide dinner and awards ceremony held Wednesday, May 13 at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento.

The iconic Jackson restaurant was honored as the Senate District 4 recipient for its outstanding contributions to the community and local economy. Teresa’s Place has been a beloved institution in Amador County since 1921, serving authentic, homemade Italian cuisine and acting as a multigenerational gathering place for families and visitors.

“We are deeply honored to receive this recognition from Senator Alvarado-Gil,” said the Giurlani family, owners of Teresa’s Place. “For five generations and over 100 years, our family has lived by the motto ‘Sempre avanti’, “always forward,” providing food and hospitality to all who enter our doors. We embrace the love and enjoyment that food brings to everyone and will continue to serve the public with pride.”

Launched in late 2024, the Senator’s Choice Award program recognizes exceptional small and local businesses across Senate District 4 each month. As part of Small Business Month, the California SBDC hosted this special statewide event to honor one outstanding small business from each California Senate and Assembly district.

“Teresa’s Place exemplifies the very best of our district’s small businesses,” said Senator Alvarado-Gil. “From its rich history since 1921 to its role as a cherished community landmark in Jackson, Teresa’s represents the dedication, tradition, and entrepreneurial spirit that keep our local economies strong and vibrant.”

Senator Alvarado-Gil encourages all residents to shop local and support the small businesses that form the heartbeat of their communities.
