Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil (R-Jackson) has issued the following statement regarding the shooting of Charlie Kirk today in Orem, Utah:
"Today, we witnessed an appalling act of violence on a university campus during a peaceful political debate. I join leaders across the nation in praying for Charlie Kirk’s loved ones. This senseless act underscores a dire truth: political violence must end.
"We cannot allow disagreement or dissent to escalate into physical harm. I call on every American—across the political spectrum—to recommit to the principle that our democracy is strongest when rooted in respect, civility, and peace.
"May God’s healing hand be upon Charlie’s loved ones, bringing them strength, comfort, and peace.”
