SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Today Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil (R-Jackson) announced that $500,000 in direct state investment is headed to the City of Bishop to upgrade aging public safety infrastructure that supports 911, police, and fire dispatch. The funding was secured as part of the state budget package (AB 113) just signed by Governor Newsom.
Said Bishop City Council Member, Jose Garcia, “I am deeply grateful with Senator Alvarado-Gil for helping to secure $500,000.00 dollars towards our 911 police and fire dispatch infrastructure. The funding provides much needed support from the state and motivates us to continue working together with our representatives in Sacramento. Thank you, Senator Alvarado-Gil.
Bishop’s Public Safety Building houses the Police Department, 911 Dispatch Center, and Fire Department in a 1955 facility never designed for today’s around-the-clock emergency communications. This investment will fund necessary electrical infrastructure upgrades so 911 and police and fire dispatch can stay online during power failures and emergencies.
“Too often, rural communities feel overlooked by Sacramento,” Sen. Alvarado-Gil said. “Bishop and Inyo County deserve this much needed assistance. When someone calls 911, those systems have to work. I’m going to keep fighting to make sure our mountain and valley communities get the resources they need.”
