Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil (R-Jackson) has awarded "Small Change 4 Big" as the Nonprofit of the Year honoree for Amador County. This award recognizes the exceptional dedication by the organization to support those in need in the Sierra foothills community.
"Small Change 4 Big" offers direct services addressing physical, emotional, economic, and social well-being gaps impacting local residents. The organization’s creative approach has significantly benefited the community, ensuring essential support reaches those who need it most. The inspiring journey of "Small Change 4 Big" began in 2017 when staff at Rosebuds Café, led by the Pulskamp family, started collecting small change from friends and patrons to assist the impoverished in their neighborhood.
During the pandemic, when St. Vincent de Paul Society's efforts to feed the hungry were hampered, the small change collected at Rosebuds Café enabled the continuation of meal services. This community-driven initiative, supported by Rosebuds staff and neighbors, provided meals, tents, sleeping bags, bus passes, and essential prescriptions to those in need. In the summer of 2023, Mary Pulskamp and her son Tyx, along with their dedicated team and community supporters, officially organized "$mall Change 4 Big" as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to expand their invaluable work.
"The work done by 'Small Change 4 Big' has made a profound difference in the lives of many, and I am proud to celebrate their achievements as Amador County’s Nonprofit of the Year,” said Senator Alvarado-Gil. “It is an honor to recognize their dedication and innovative approach to helping those in need,” the Senator added.
