Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil (R-Jackson) welcomed the news that CAL FIRE has awarded $10,956,926.65 (Nearly 18% of the total statewide allocation) in Wildfire Prevention Grants to projects across Senate District 4. These critical funds will support a variety of wildfire mitigation efforts in communities throughout El Dorado, Mariposa, Inyo, Madera, Amador, Mono, and Tuolumne counties. Senate District 4 is ground zero for wildfire risk in California, encompassing vast forested areas, rural communities, and wildland-urban interfaces that have faced devastating fires in recent years.

These grants will directly fund hazardous fuels reduction, community education, and planning initiatives that help protect homes, families, and natural resources from the growing threat of wildfires.

“I am grateful to CAL FIRE for recognizing the urgent needs of our district and investing in these vital projects,” said Senator Alvarado-Gil. “This funding is a meaningful step forward in building resilience for our communities.”

These grants reflect ongoing efforts to strengthen wildfire prevention across the state. Senator Alvarado-Gil and her team have worked closely with local partners by attending Fire Safe Council meetings, delivering fire prevention presentations throughout the district, visiting college first-responder and firefighter training programs, advocating for improved CAL FIRE compensation, and championing budgetary funds to ensure these grant programs remain robust in the state legislature.

Looking ahead to 2026, Senator Alvarado-Gil will remain focused on wildfire mitigation, supporting CAL FIRE's critical work, and securing resources to keep our communities safe.
