On Tuesday Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil (R-Jackson) participated in a town hall organized by Patterson Mayor Michael Clauzel at the Hammon Senior Center, where she engaged with residents on a number of topics including education, childcare, cost of living, crime, and infrastructure. Alongside Congressman John Duarte (R-Modesto), she also shared how her upbringing has influenced her work as a state legislator.
“Now that Sacramento is out of session, being present in the district and listening to constituents’ concerns is my top priority. The more we talk openly, the better we can work together to find solutions,” said Senator Alvarado-Gil. “I truly appreciate everyone who took the time to come out, share their thoughts, and ask questions. Patterson is a wonderful community, but I know there are challenges we need to tackle. I’d like to thank Mayor Clauzel for his outstanding leadership and for making this event happen. I look forward to more opportunities like this!”
During her introduction, Senator Alvarado-Gil shared some of the personal stories that shaped her legislative priorities in Sacramento. Growing up in a challenging environment, she overcame the dangers of gang violence and the threat of human trafficking. Those experiences instilled in her a deep commitment to public safety, uplifting vulnerable populations, and improving access to education and career opportunities.
On the topic of public safety, she highlighted her recent landmark victory with the signing of SB 268 into law, which reforms Proposition 57 by classifying the rape of an intoxicated person as a violent felony. In outlining her beliefs, she emphasized her support for families, school choice, law enforcement, agriculture, and local control.
Alvarado-Gil also stressed that addressing California’s most pressing issues requires standing up to the status quo, prioritizing people and effective policy over politics.
“This isn’t about which party you belong to; it’s about who supports changing the direction of California,” Alvarado-Gil told attendees.
As Patterson continues to grow, residents have raised concerns about several challenges facing the city, including access to emergency trauma care, housing supply and affordability, and the availability of clean drinking water. Senator Alvarado-Gil reaffirmed her commitment to collaborating with Mayor Clauzel, local stakeholders, and all levels of government in finding effective solutions.
